OUR WORK

LIVED EXPERIENCE IS WHERE WE BEGIN. POWER IS WHERE WE’RE GOING.

Our work starts with a simple belief: parents and community members already carry knowledge, skills, relationships, and solutions. Our role is to help create the conditions for that expertise to be strengthened, connected, and translated into collective power and real influence.

HOW WE BUILD COMMUNITY POWER

Our work connects four strategies that move parent and community leaders from lived experience to collective action, influence, and shared decision-making.

Build the knowledge, confidence, relationships, and skills to turn lived experience into leadership and influence.

Bring people together around shared experiences and priorities, turning individual concerns into collective action.

Community members help shape the questions, gather knowledge, interpret what we learn, and turn findings into action.

Build the capacity of institutions to partner with communities, share power, and put equitable practices into action.

FROM LIVED EXPERIENCE TO POWER

Parents and community members already bring knowledge, skills, relationships, and solutions.

Our role is to create the conditions for that expertise to be recognized and strengthened. Through connection, practice, new skills, relationships, and access to data, leaders build the capacity to turn what they know into collective action, influence, and decision-making power.

OUR LEADERSHIP ECOSYSTEM

Leadership does not develop through a single training or program. It grows through opportunities to learn, practice, lead, reflect, and influence.

At Voice to Power Lab, our Leadership Ecosystem connects leadership development, organizing, participatory research, and institutional capacity building. Parent and community leaders move within this ecosystem—building relationships, strengthening skills, putting their expertise into practice, and creating change alongside others.

The ecosystem is designed so leadership keeps growing: leaders develop other leaders, community knowledge becomes collective action, and community expertise shapes institutions and public systems.

A PATHWAY FOR LEADERSHIP

Leadership grows through opportunity, connection, and practice. We create pathways for parent and community leaders to deepen their skills, take on greater leadership, and move into roles where they can shape decisions, institutions, and public systems.

Build on existing knowledge while strengthening relationships, confidence, and shared purpose.

Put skills into action through projects, organizing, research, and facilitation.

Support other leaders, facilitate learning, and help create spaces where community wisdom guides the work.

Bring community expertise into advocacy, policy, governance, and decision-making.

WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE IN PRACTICE

Our leadership pathway comes to life through opportunities for parent and community leaders to learn, practice, lead, research, organize, facilitate, and influence decisions alongside community and institutional partners.

Parent-Led Passion Projects

Parent leaders turn ideas rooted in their own experiences and communities into action. With support, resources, and space to experiment, leaders design and lead projects around issues that matter to their families and communities building skills, relationships, confidence, and influence along the way.

Community Needs Assessment

Parent Community Listening Facilitators engage families in conversations about their experiences, priorities, and solutions. They help gather and make meaning of community knowledge that can inform decisions and action—positioning parents as partners in creating knowledge, identifying solutions, and shaping what happens next.

BUILDING THE CAPACITY TO LEAD WITH EXPERTISE

Parents and community members already bring expertise grounded in lived experience. Our role is to create opportunities for leaders to strengthen that expertise through knowledge, preparation, relationships, practice, and access to data—so they can stand in their expertise and influence decisions.

One way this comes to life is through Reflective Practitioner Facilitators. Parent leaders deepen their knowledge of family and community engagement, strengthen their facilitation skills, and lead learning alongside educators and institutional partners. They are not invited simply to share their stories. They help shape the learning, challenge assumptions, and bring community expertise into the room.

Building community power requires capacity on both sides. As parent and community leaders strengthen their ability to lead and influence, we work with institutions to strengthen their ability to recognize community expertise, build authentic partnerships, share power, and create opportunities for shared decision-making.

COMMUNITY WISDOM. SHARED POWER. SYSTEMS CHANGE.

When community expertise is recognized, strengthened, and connected to decision-making, families and communities don’t just participate in systems—they help shape them.
